Is the Sit-up the Best Ab Exercise?The sit-up was for years considered one of the best ab exercises when it comes to working the abdomen. For some, our ab workouts consist of just this one ab exercise as it was the only exercise we knew or where taught to exercise the abs. However, today most of the fitness community agrees that the sit-up does not represent the best choice for abdominal exercises. The primary reason for this is that in order for any exercise to provide stimulation to the abdominal section, the rectus abdominis and/or oblique’s should be targeted to a large degree. The sit-up movement targets mainly the hip flexor muscle. The sit-up movement DOES work the rectus abdominis, but only to a small degree. This is not to say that doing sit-ups is all-together bad, as it would be considered a decent ab exercise for beginners. Continue reading
